who else really gets Brizzle

Arcade Food Theatre is the latest in an avalanche of recent food markets arriving in the capital.

Right, I’ve written about new food market openings so much recently that I’m officially out of snappy intros. Sorry about that. Anyway, there’s another new one opening at the Centre Point in July, and out of all the recent arrivals, this has perhaps the most enticing food lineup. Arcade Food Theatre may be a rather grandiose name, but the talent on offer here certainly warrants the fanfare.

Although having said that, perhaps the buzziest arrival won’t be located in the market at all. Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese dumpling house that’s routinely hailed as one of the world’s best dumpling restaurants, will open their second UK branch inside the Centre Point building – building on the success of their Covent Garden original. It joins suave 60s-inspired spot VIVI in the skyscraper, but they won’t be alone for long.

Arcade Food Theatre itself looks to be a comparable idea to Mare Street Market, wherein foodie offerings mix with coffee shops, florists, and craft spots. And they’ve roped in quite the lineup of talent – amongst the early hypebeasts are Casita do Frango (an offshoot of piri-piri restaurant Casa do Frango), a second outpost of much-loved Turkish restaurant Oklava, and a steak-testing kitchen from Flat Iron, nicknamed ‘The Workshop’. Yum.

The new market is also home to the long-anticipated ‘house of sandos’ from the people behind cult pop-up faves TāTā Eatery. Known as Tóu, the new restaurant is dedicated entirely to their legendary katsu sandos and rice bowls, and you can expect this Portguese-Chinese fusion spot to be a big draw upon opening. Similarly hyped is a third branch of Insta-bait Pophams Bakery, who have only just brought their lusciously laminated pastries to London Fields; they’re in charge of coffee and the bakery.

I’m already making plans for a very delicious afternoon swanning from eatery to eatery, and a couple of bars, a terrace, and art installations simply make the prospect more enticing. Arcade Food Theatre is all set to make Centre Point a must-visit this summer – and whilst opening night is yet to be confirmed, we’re sure they’ll be hogging the spotlight before long.
